Phnom Penh (FN), August 20 - Prime Minister Hun Sen announced that from January 2018, employers will be responsible for paying 100% of healthcare costs, and beginning in 2019, all workers will receive a pension.
The announcement was made in a meeting with 4,270 workers on Sunday at Diamond Island Exhibition Center.
He added that having employees pay for healthcare costs would save at least 8,000 to 12,000 riel. He also called for all workers to work better.
The premier also added that workers will receive free two-year public bus access from August 20, 2017 until August 20, 2019.
“Workers who show their work card, will get the free rides,” the premier added.
By 2017, Cambodia's garment and footwear industry has grown to 1,107 institutes, with more than 740,000 workers and the industry has paid around $2 billion a year, according to Ith Sam Heng, Minister of Labor.
